GNR members will be assisting the Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity Build in Salisbury.
Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity shares a global vision where everyone has a decent place to live. We bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. We are able to do this in the 22 communities of the Merrimack Valley that we serve thanks to the generosity and support of local volunteers like you.
You should report to the worksite between 8:15-8:30am. There will be a greeter there by 8am.
A standard build work day is:
8:15am - 8:30am registration / orientation
8:30am work assignment
8:35pm - 12pm work
12pm - 1pm lunch (you bring your own)
1pm - 3:30pm work
3:30pm - 4pm clean up
After a short orientation and welcome by the greeter, our Building Director, will address you at 8:30am regarding work assignments, safety and overall construction. He will organize the volunteers into work teams.
You should plan to be at the work site the whole day. We do not accept half day participation on the site activities - due to safety and the flow of work. If you cannot work a full day our ReStore can take volunteers in shifts and is always looking for support.
Please bring lunch, snacks and water with you.
Be prepared to work outdoors.
Be prepared to work rain, snow or shine.
Bring a hat and work gloves if you have them.
Dress appropriately for the season - Bring warm clothes – dress in layers - bring sunscreen.
Wear boots or sneakers – no-open toed sandals or shoes.
Safety equipment and tools will be provided, as will training for whatever task you do.
Habitat builds homes but tasks depend on weather or stage of the construction. Some tasks may be unskilled but necessary.
All volunteers are required to sign a Waiver of Liability before participating with us in construction.
Volunteers between the age of 16-18 must bring their waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian and must be accompanied by an adult (21+ years old). No one under the age of 16 is allowed on the active build-site.
