LAKE CHATUGE

The scenic beauty of Lake Chatuge is nearly unsurpassed in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, drawing tourists and seasonal residents from all over the country. Lake Chatuge is a TVA lake with 132 miles of shoreline, perfect for boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, picnicking in secluded coves and camping. There are many public boat ramps that offer easy access to all water sports. A swimming beach, playgrounds and numerous picnic tables are also provided at the Towns County Recreational Beach. Many of the campgrounds are located on the scenic lake shore, and other campgrounds offer more private settings.

Lake Chatuge is a man-made reservoir created by the Chatuge Dam which finished construction in 1942. The lake is relatively shallow with depths of 30 feet (9.1 m) and reaches 144 feet (44 m) by the dam
