In 1980, Julie's mother was approached by Merrill-Lynch as they attempted to purchase a prominent company in each state, throughout the United States. Sandra sold Townsend Realty in 1981, and she ran the company for a few years after the sale. Meanwhile, Julie worked for Townsend Realty/Merrill Lynch in record keeping and was in college.
After Julie graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 1983, with a B.A. in Political Science and a double major in History, she began selling real estate in 1984 for Townsend Realty/Merrill-Lynch. In 1986, she was recruited by Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Company to sell investment properties, and she trained under the top investment broker in the southeast. At the time, she was the only female broker that worked for CB in Charlotte. In 1988, however, she decided to leave CB and go into business with Bradford True, a fellow CB broker. She worked with the Bradford Company until the late 1990's, when True decided to leave the real estate industry. Julie then formed her own company, "Julie E. Townsend, Real Estate Services."
During the time that Julie brokered with True, she also went to graduate school. She earned a Master's in English from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in English in 1993, and she taught there until 2011. Julie's first agent was one of her former students: Brad Renfroe. Over the years, a lot of her clients have been professors.
Julie has always enjoyed the mountains, and, in fact, her parents began their own development with another couple in the late 1960's, when they purchased an old dairy farm at the corner of Cranberry Springs Road and Liberty Grove Road in Ashe County. As an adult, she visited Ashe County often, and she brokered a few land deals to friends as well. In 2005, Julie purchased a cabin in the Fleetwood area, and by 2008, she decided to make it her primary residence. Not too long after her move, she decided to join the local real estate Board and focus more time and energy in brokering properties not only in the High Country but in the Charlotte region as well.
She would welcome the opportunity to help you find your mountain dream home!
