Organized in 1941, the Sumter Little Theatre was chartered in April 1949 as the Community Theatre. The name was changed to The Sumter Little Theatre in 1966 and non-profit status was granted at that time. The theatre re-organized in 1987 and was relocated to the Sumter County Cultural Center at 14 Mood Avenue. The theatre operates under the guidance of a board of trustees, consisting of individuals from the corporate, educational, military and artistic sectors of the community.

Weldon Auditorium has been revitalized and expanded to create an exquisite state-of-the-art performing arts center. Weldon officially opened in early December 2010 with a "Got" Weldon Going! Grand Re-Opening GALA weekend. Following the styles and colors of the 1950's, Weldon Auditorium's Grand Atrium Lobby opens onto an 1100 seat, almost accoustically perfect, auditorium. Included in the Auditroium's features are the Entertainment Office (open to the public six days a week), the Art Corridor (displaying rotating shows of works from our many talented Clarendon County artists and artisans), the Clarendon County Sports Hall of Fame (presenting an historic walk through Clarendon County's athletic stars), the "Weldon Memories" museum (featuring artifacts from the rich, storied history of the original building, its students) and a modern Hospitality Center (for special functions and receptions).
