PAYSON located at the "heart" of Arizona and a pleasant 90-minute drive from the Phoenix metropolitan area at 5,000 feet, the area enjoys a mild four-season climate rich in its Western heritage, Payson offers the atmosphere of rural America with the business opportunities of a metropolis.
PINE & STRAWBERRY each are tucked snugly in its own valley nestled against the magnificent Mogollon Rim. 15 miles North of Payson you'll climb to approximately 6,000 ft. elevation. the Old Strawberry Schoolhouse, built in 1885, is a State Historical Landmark and is Arizona's oldest standing schoolhouse. local artisans and craftspeople showcase their shops in the town of Pine.
CHRISTOPHER CREEK is located just 22 miles East of Payson. Situated on the banks of Christopher Creek and below the Mogollon Rim, it is within minutes of several trout streams as well as an easy access to seven Rim area lakes. Author Zane Grey used this area as a backdrop for many of his novels, Only two hours driving time from Phoenix, the Christopher Creek area offers a cool escape from desert heat and city stress.
HAPPY JACK - BLUE RIDGE AREA starts approximately 40 miles North of Payson along State Route 87 and continues for another 17 miles. It also extends from Hwy 87 out the Lake Mary Rd. about 12 miles towards Flagstaff. The elevation averages 7000 ft., but is as high as 7600 ft. in some locations. The hub is Clint's Well (19 miles North of Strawberry). There is no actual "town" of Happy Jack. The area boasts 4 distinct seasons. The area has a rich history in the logging industry and is among the most requested hunt area in the State of Arizona. Blue Ridge Reservoir provides fishing and boating among old growth Ponderosa Pines, fir and blue spruce trees.
