On May 10, 1966 the Madisonville-Hopkins County Board of REALTORS® was chartered through the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. In February, 1975 the Madisonville-Hopkins County Board of REALTORS® was incorporated and Bill Rudd, Sr.
served as President. When the Board was first started, the MLS book was a loose leaf notebook with a part-time MLS person. 1976 brought the change of a bound MLS book and a part-time secretary for both the Board and the MLS. In 1979, Nancy Jones was hired as a full time Executive Officer for the Board and remained as their Executive Officer until her retirement in 1997.
Many changes have taken place throughout the years – such as the MLS being incorporated and then being dissolved and formed as a committee of the Board, members going from picking up keys of listed properties from the listing offices to operating an electronic lockbox and key system, from having as many as three employees to having one and from doing things by hand to becoming fully computerized. They now own their own building at 275 South Main Street, Madisonville, KY 42431, occupying suite A while renting
out suite B. Over the years, the Board has won several awards from the Kentucky Association of REALTORS® such as the REALTORS® Community Service Achievement Journal Contest-Small Board, RPAC Highest Average Dollar Per Member Award-Small Board and RPAC Highest Percentage of Participation-Small Board.
REALTORS® is the distinctive and exclusive designation for individuals who are members of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and subscribe to its strict Code of Ethics. As such it serves to identify and distinguish those members from all other persons engaged in real estate activities. The term denotes business competence and high standards of business conduct. The Madisonville-Hopkins County Board of REALTORS®, Inc. currently has 76 REALTORS® members who strive to live by their Code of Ethics and continue to promote the rights of home ownership in the Madisonville and surrounding Hopkins County communities.
