About the Plateau

Highlands, Cashiers and the surrounding areas are a playground in the mountains, with year-round activities, gourmet restaurants, and charming shops.

  • Holiday with us in the winter and enjoy skiing and snow tubing or snuggling in front of a roaring fire or watching the stars in the clearest of skies.

  • Spring break on the Plateau and enjoy the dawn of nature's new season while hiking one of the thousands of miles of trails through the mountains and valleys or tour some of the most astonishing waterfalls (you can drive under Bridal Veil Falls or take a walk behind Dry Falls).

  • Vacation at one of the many resorts or go on a camping trip to explore the rich history that makes up the Highlands-Cashiers area. Take a short, 2 mile walking hike up and over Whiteside Mountain, which stands between the towns of Cashiers and Highlands, here in North Carolina and the Georgia border. Whiteside Mountain is believed to be the oldest mountain in the world and can boast the highest cliffs in Eastern North America.

  • Are you a Leaf Peeper? Join us for the annual Leaf Festival held in October. And while you are here, take in the spectacular colors of nature as you cruise around one of our enchanting lakes or just take an old fashioned "Sunday Drive" and take in the most captivating sights.
